Grumpy's Pizza
About This Spot
Stepping into Grumpy's Pizza feels like settling into a well-loved neighborhood gathering place where the pace is easy and the mood is friendly. Nestled in the heart of Arab, Alabama, this Italian restaurant welcomes you with the comforting aroma of freshly baked pizza mingling with hints of garlic and herbs. The atmosphere strikes a balance between casual and lively, where friendly chatter drifts from table to table and the hum of genuine local connection fills the air.
Here, each visit invites you to discover familiar flavors with a touch of playful personality—whether it’s the house-favorite pies topped with daring combinations like bacon, pepperoni, and banana peppers, or the hearty helpings of lasagna swimming in rich, savory sauce. The crusts carry that unmistakable oven-baked character: crisp enough to hold toppings yet delicate around the edges. There’s a warmth not just in the kitchen’s offerings but in how the staff approach making every guest feel attended to—thoughtful servers who know the menu inside out and bring a spark of fun to the meal.
Families find their spot comfortably here, from kids delighting in mini pizzas and simple pastas to adults savoring meals that go beyond your average plate, pairing comforting classics with fresh, local character. The pace encourages lingering, sharing stories over slices or plates piled with hearty Italian-inspired fare. Grumpy’s is less about perfection and more about a shared experience where the little quirks—like uneven pizza cuts or generous meat sauce—add to the place’s authenticity and charm.
Whether you’re winding down after a busy day or joining friends for a casual night out, the feel of Grumpy’s is defined both by the food on the table and the easygoing spirit around it. It’s a spot that quietly celebrates the joy of good company and honest, familiar flavors in a space that feels like a local secret worth returning to.

First time eating at Grumpy’s. I was impressed. 6 out of 7 of us really liked our meal. The one that was less impressed didn’t ask the right question about sauce when she ordered her meal. Our server, Lily, was off the chain. She offered to replace the entree with absolutely anything else. Lily also knew the menu extremely well and was very attentive and fun. I had the lasagna; it was very good. The larger portion with a side salad was plenty enough food for two meals for me. I also snagged some key lime pie for the road. It too was very good. The restaurant was nice enough and was clean, which is hugely important. The real winner for me was the amazing service and the food was good and reasonably priced. Will be trying the pizza next time. I only wish that restaurants that have the name “pizza” above the door actually offered anchovies as an option. Alas, I am in the minority on this one it seems. =]

This place has really great pizza that has that authentic oven baked flavor in the crust. Its hard to describe, that crisp and yeasty yet light flavor. I love how the smell fills my car on the way home. The thin crust is crispy and firm under the weight of the toppings which extend almost to the edge with just enough of a crust that you can hold the slice without driving your thumb into the marinara. It also reheats very nicely, which is a necessary qualifier of a good quality pizza. I haven't been able to order any lately because of a dental issue. The crust is not chewy, but it's just slightly tough enough and normally that is generally a good thing as long as you have a solid, functioning set of natural teeth. Looking forward to returning, just thinking about the baking pizza smell is making me hungry.

Food was excellent, the pizza crust has a good consistency and flavor to it. It was a little hard to get the slices to separate and it was not cut evenly, but if you're not getting it to share that's not a huge concern. The sandwiches are quite good as well, though a little small. The "extra meat" portion is definitely worth it, but my husband was still very hungry after eating his. Service was friendly and the food was hot when they brought it out. My biggest complaint would be that they kept sitting new customers around us, so if you have social anxiety it may be better to call in an order for pickup.
